To attach the steering wheel to the steering column.
NOTE: Most pre-1984 CJ's and SJ's use this nut, however, there are a few that don't. There is an identifying groove on the steering column, see the second picture above. If your column has the groove this nut will fit. If it does not, it will not fit. All models 1984 and after use this nut.
